What follows matches the in-app experience and entry points.
Single-level spaces & nested tags
Day to day, use one level of spaces for broad areas (you can create spaces yourself); finer grouping belongs to tags.
Tags support a nested tree, such as Life/Travel or Work/Project/Ideas. Selecting a tag in the sidebar filters the note list.
This keeps hierarchy without falling into endless multi-level folders that get harder to maintain.
Markdown & line numbers
The body is Markdown text; only preview shows the reader-facing layout.
The editor keeps line numbers on the left. With soft wrap and hard breaks, that is especially useful for:
- Quick notes written one line at a time, then recombined later
- Rearranging thoughts by line or paragraph
- Locating content and aligning context quickly
Math, code highlighting, task lists, and similar effects appear in preview according to the current renderer. The editor also supports inserting common Markdown structures (task lists, tables, formulas, and so on) from the toolbar or commands.
Mobile cursor, selection & toolbar
Mobile input is tuned specifically for text editing:
- Faster, more accurate cursor movement
- Floating cursor + selection for local edits on a small screen
- A persistent keyboard toolbar above the keyboard
The toolbar covers common symbols, jumps, find, undo/redo, and entry into the command palette and secondary tabs.
Secondary tabs include Markdown shortcuts and an Extensions tab, so you spend less time bouncing between the system keyboard, menus, and the editor.
Where system Share is available, you can share text or links into aNote to create a note. A single-line URL is turned into a Markdown link with a fetched title when possible. Some systems also support Quick Actions to create a note from the home-screen icon.
On desktop, you can paste or drag and drop images into the editor.
Desktop & shortcuts
Desktop keeps the same writing habits, with stronger keyboard and overlay UX:
- Command palette: create notes, open recent notes, export PDF, and more
- Recent notes / space switcher: centered overlays on wide screens
- List keyboard navigation: ↑↓ to move highlight; Home/End and Mod+↑↓ for edges
- Shortcuts: scoped to app / editor and similar contexts; bindings follow in-app settings
- Font size: UI size and editor body size can be set separately
On wide screens, the note list also supports context menus (for example pinning) and multi-select.
Auto-save
Edits are auto-saved with a delay.
When you leave the editor for the list, or the system back gesture runs, any unsaved content is flushed as soon as possible.
The UI reflects status such as:
- Saved
- Saving
- Unsaved
So you can write without constantly saving by hand.
Recently opened & position restore
aNote keeps a recently opened list locally; by default about 100 items, with a one-tap clear.
When you switch notes, it remembers:
- Scroll position
- Caret position
- Some UI state
Opening the note again—or restarting the app—returns you to where you left off, which helps with long documents and interrupted editing.
Search & find/replace
- List search filters title and body together
- The list also supports date filters and note pinning
- In-editor find / replace supports case folding, whole-word match, and regular expressions
Matches appear as a list you can jump through.
In replace mode you can multi-select hits for partial or batch replacement.
Notes in the recycle bin are usually read-only, so find/locate is fine; batch replace there is not recommended.
Markdown preview & outline
Preview renders Markdown as a web page.
If the document has headings, open the outline to jump to a section.
For longer notes and docs, the outline cuts down a lot of scrolling.
Full-page screenshots (Web render)
Preview is Web-rendered, so you can capture long images or full-page screenshots.
The entry is usually under the preview More menu.
Because layout comes from the Web side, you can customize styles further for brand or sharing needs—design files, CSS, or AI-assisted styles included.
PDF export
PDF export supports heading bookmarks.
Custom templates can control:
- Page layout
- Fonts and sizes
- Headers and footers
- Headings, code blocks, quotes, and more
You can also draft a custom template externally (including with AI) and apply it in export.
On desktop, PDF export is often available from the command palette or a shortcut such as Mod+P. Options follow the current app version.
Youlog sharing
Notes can be published to Youlog.net.
Typical actions:
- Create a share
- Update a shared page
- Open the published page
- Delete a share
These usually live under the preview More menu.
Good fits:
- A stable, long-lived public link
- Avoiding a closed platform or social silo
- Re-formatting the same content for other channels later
After publishing, you can still adjust layout on Youlog for further distribution.
Site publishing (basics)
aNote integrates Everkm Publish so you can turn notes in a space into a static site. The app covers the basic path—pick content → preview → export / deploy. Themes, site config, wikilinks, i18n, and similar advanced topics belong on the Everkm Publish docs.
Typical in-app steps:
- Open the Publish entry and create or select a site
- Choose the content space (and any filters you need)
- Pick a theme and save site settings
- Preview the result; use publish logs when something looks wrong
- Export the static site (for example as ZIP), or follow the guided one-click deploy (platforms depend on the current app)
Deploy tokens and related options live in deploy settings; leaving with unsaved changes asks for confirmation.
Import & export
Settings includes import and export for backup and migration:
- Export can filter by space and similar criteria
- Import supports ZIP / folder forms (as shown in the current UI)
- When finished, a summary card shows successes and failures

Text Actions
In the secondary toolbar Extensions tab, Text Actions runs preset logic actions to reshape text quickly.
Actions can read or change:
- The current selection
- The full document
- Caret and selection positions
Atomic commands include:
- Insert text
- Replace a range
- Set the selection
- Move the caret
Use them to bottle repetitive edits, or to co-design small tools with AI.
Recycle bin
Deleted notes go to the recycle bin first.
You can:
- Restore
- Delete permanently
Recycle-bin notes stay out of “recently opened”; restoring usually puts them back on the recent list.
Language, theme & fonts
In Settings you can adjust:
- Language: follow the system, or choose manually
- Theme: light, dark, or system
- Fonts: system fonts, local lists, and remote font download/management
- Font size: UI and editor body sizes separately (defaults may differ on desktop vs mobile)
